Stir-fried okra and broccoli. Roasted cajun sweet potatoes and red pepper. Sour cream.
“Be Mine” Banana Cupcakes with lemon icing.
I do worry about individuals that pick vanilla when chocolate is a flavor option…
Banana Cupcake with Lemon Icing! 2012. For a Rookie Meetup in Chicago.
OKAY NO. THIS IS VEGAN, STOP. The recipe description said that these disappear immediately. Alriiiight..sureeee. But it wasn’t kidding. The lovely ladies at the rookie meetup really liked these! AND I WILL TOOT MY OWN HORN because I have never made cupcakes this moist, never has a flavor combination made so much sense on my taste buds.
The secret: Sub butter with coconut milk and canola oil. A little vanilla, real mccoy bananas and some lemon zest. And there you have pastry perfection. Oh and a skittle for a faux cherry :>
There’s something quite honest and kind about the grilled cheese. If I were food, I’d like the grilled cheese to be my best friend.
Trying Natto for the first time
I work at a sushi restaurant and the manager was sweet enough to let me take some ume flavored natto home.
Ume-flavored natto is to Japan as freedom-flavored hamburger is to America. ‘num sayin. Basically Natto is fermented soybean, a delicacy in Japan. It is notorious for its odor and is commonly described as an “acquired taste”.
You have to mix it thoroughly (with the enclosed seasoning mix) until it is rather gooey. It didn’t smell as bad as people always tell me. The taste…the taste was…interesting. Genuinely. Not like, hey I’m going to be really passive about my comment and say “interesting” hehe look at me and my neutrality. But interesting in the way that it tasted like marmite mixed with soy sauce mixed with bacon. The aftertaste was almost alcoholic, laced with coffee. On a scale of coconut-chocolate to pizza, this was probably a 7.
my mother just walked up to me and said, “Frances, I ate too many empanadas. I hate myself.”
And in that moment. I knew I wasn’t adopted
LSP Sugar Cookies! 2012.
Santa is probably sick and tired of chocolate chip cookies on Christmas Eve so why not bake him some of these! They are butter and milk free so holiday weight-gain cannot be blamed on these. Well…if you don’t eat a bajillion. Be strong.
Curried Tempeh, Bi Bim Bap style with sauteed green pepper and fresh tomato.
I am in love with brightly colored food, I am in love with Korean Bibimbap- this is an Indian twist I have my two loves.
